Two waters in a weekend need two cleanup decisions

Plan the change of venue around current biosecurity requirements rather than a quick rinse assumption.

Check both sets of instructions

Before planning consecutive venues, read the current cleaning and decontamination requirements for each one. FWS recommends cleaning, draining and drying equipment to reduce the movement of aquatic invasive species. Local measures may add requirements or specify procedures. Do not assume a rinse or a particular drying interval is sufficient everywhere. If the proposed schedule cannot accommodate the required process, change the schedule or venue. Convenience is not a method of decontamination.

Identify everything that contacts water

List the net, footwear, containers and other equipment used at the first location. Include items that seem incidental, such as a wet bag compartment. Follow official local procedures and the manufacturer’s material guidance rather than improvising chemical or high-temperature treatments. Keep used and prepared gear clearly separated in transport and storage. A label can help prevent accidental reuse, but it does not establish that an item has been treated correctly.

Make the second departure a fresh check

Before leaving again, verify that each required step is complete and that equipment is suitable for the next water. Do not allow the fact that the car is already packed to settle the question. If a step remains incomplete, postpone or choose another appropriate activity. After the weekend, improve the itinerary note with what made the process awkward. The useful system is one that accommodates real drying, cleaning and inspection tasks, rather than treating them as an invisible gap between photographs from two locations.
